How to get the right level of formality, sound professional, but friendly too?
Never fear, though!
1. 當(dāng)你表達(dá)請(qǐng)求的時(shí)候,你可以試著使用"can, could, would, may"。
2. 不論你在請(qǐng)求或者接受信息、幫助的時(shí)候,都別忘了使用"please, thank you, thanks very much"。
Hi, how’ve you been?或者Nice to hear from you.
I’m just calling to …
I’m just calling to see if you would like to set up a meeting.
So what can I do for you?
Strategy 3
I would like to say something here, if I may.
Allow me to make a point.
May I interrupt you for a second?
Please let me confirm...
So, let me make sure I’ve got things straight...
Good luck on that interview 或 Hope you feel better soon。
I’ll see you on Friday, then.
Well John, it’s been a pleasure talking to you.
The start of the call:
Hello.You've reached the accounts department.
Please hold and I'll put you through.
Could I speak to Daniel, please?
Who shall I say is calling?
My name is Monica.
When someone is busy:
I'm afraid he's out of the office today. Can you call back later?
Sorry, he's not available at the moment.
I'm afraid she's in a meeting at the moment.
Would you like me to take a message?
Can I take your number please?
OK. I'll make sure he gets the message.
Appointments:
I'd like to arrange an appointment, please.
When's convenient for you?
Would next Friday be OK?
Sorry I'm busy then. But I could make ... (e.g. Wednesday).
Shall we say ... (4:00 pm)?
That sounds good. Thank you.
OK. See you then.
Making an enquiry:
I'd like to enquire about ... (e.g. flights, prices, products, services, etc.)
Could you tell me about ...?
I just need to check a couple of things. Can I call you back later to confirm?
If you're looking for a challenging situation to practice your English, just pick up the telephone.
