  雅思大作文真題及范文

題目:The world has many towns and cities constructed in previous centuries that are suitable and livable for people in those times. What problems will this cause today and what can be done to solve these problems?

  過去的`幾個世紀,世界上建造了許多適合人類居住的小鎮(zhèn)和城市,這樣做在現(xiàn)在會帶來哪些問題,可以做什么來解決這些問題?

  參考范文【1】

Old towns and cities built centuries ago are commonly seen in modern society, sometimes inconveniencing city dwellers and the government. Under this circumstance, some measures should be taken to improve this situation.

A major problem related to this phenomenon is that the development of modern cities is hampered to a large extent, which is of direct impact to residents’ life. As for the comfort and convenience, there is still much room for improvement, partly because these old towns fail to provide people living there with more amenities as their modern counterparts do. For instance, it is difficult to construct some buildings like shopping malls, underground parking lot, office buildings and sports facilities, which are all closely linked to modern life.

Another problem is that the increasing demand for housing may not be met in these areas. The past few years have witnessed great changes in population distribution, mainly characterized by rural-urban migration and population explosion; housing shortage is the ensuing problem many governments face now. If not changed, some of these places cannot accommodate a growing population as a result of the low space utilization.

Because the problem has no single solution, it must be fought on many fronts. To begin with, some buildings can be demolished so as to construct some modern buildings to make the most of the limited resource. More high-rise apartment buildings, for example, can be built to satisfy the needs for housing and improve the poor housing condition at the same time. In addition, historic buildings can be restored on account of their commercial and cultural value. The government can use this to facilitate the economic growth through tourism, thereby pouring more money in the urban development and urban planning.

In conclusion, more time and energy should be invested in handling the above problems in order to make both residents and governments benefit from this situation.

  參考范文【2】

Modernization has considerably outpaced the construction of new cities, thus resulting in many troubles in people’s life. Under pressure, the government needs to identify them to reduce complaints from citizens.

Commercial development gives a facility to urbanization in some cities where the basic infrastructure does not match the needs of enormous flow of dwellers. In some cases, the shortage of transportation means that the road would be blocked by vehicles especially during rush hours. This low efficient traffic can have negative implications on business to some extent. Apart from stagnated traffic, there are accommodation issues to be considered. This is because the advances of economy surely require large numbers of migrants. If single-storey constructions without necessary facilities including heating, sewage system and even electricity supply take a dominating place in city, it would be difficult for those workers to dwell comfortably.

To solve the problems identified above, the most influential factor may be the government who is responsible for modifying the old cities. Perhaps viaducts are needed to accommodate more vehicles and underground traffic systems such as railways or underpass tunnels can serve to ease road traffic dramatically. Persuading estate companies to construct more functional concrete jungles would probably be an effective strategy to mitigate the terrible living or working conditions. It would also help to improve the overlook of city if some districts are demolished for central business areas, public parks or statues.

Overall, the governors play a vital role in city development, and tax payers should have the awareness of maintaining their new cities.

題目:Some countries achieve international sporting success by building specialized facilities to train top athletes instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

  參考范文【1】

In some countries, players with athletic talent receive more support, especially in terms of the specialised facilities they used while the demand of the masses in sports is often ignored. From my perspective, the development of elite sport may bring a range of benefits in the short term, but mass sport is more closely related to the well-being of the public in the long run.

In the short term, it seems sensible to invest on speclialised facilities for some excellent sportsmen when considering the positive impacts brought by these top athletes. From the national level, it is these elites that bring honor in some international competitions and then shape a strong image for their own country. On a individual level, the public will be positively influenced by the sportsmanship revealed by these champions, which will contribute to the improvement of the quality of the whole nation.

However, in the long run, when pondering the essential reason why sports exist, we can find out that the prosperity of mass sports is of more significance and therefore more capital should be allocated to construct facilities that everybody can use. The most fundamental function of sports is to assist people to build a strong body, and in some extent, the more sports facilities there are, the more chances there are for people to take part in sports in their daily life. Another deeper reason is that people can develop a host of valuable qualities such as self-control and perseverance in this process, both of which play an key role on people’s way to achieve success.

So, when comparing the advantages of two sides, I believe this development is a short-sighted approach regarding to sports success. The public are the base of a nation. Only when every ordinary person benefits from the sports facilites, will the development of sports industry be more meaningful.

  參考范文【2】:

Many spectators would be too exhilarated to resist their feelings when they see their national flag rise with the national anthem in Olympic Games. These sports feats can hardly be achieved without some specialized facilities to train the most promising sportsmen. Although patriotism can be aroused by excellent performance, I hold the view that more sports facilities should be built to cater for the need of the public.

On latent problem for the intended construction of specialized facilities exclusively for sportsmen is that it may dampen public’s enthusiasm for sports. Being discouraged from using the sports facilities, they are likely to believe that the access to sports is only a priority to a small proportion of top athletes. Whether these facilities can be utilized is based on how much contribution to the country instead of the basic principle that each individual has the right to shape their bodies by some sports facilities.

Another problem that will arise is that the potential talent pool of gifted athletes will be drained and lose its continuous supply. Most top sportsmen are not born to the stars, and their aptitude of sports occurs when they are jogging on the playground, playing tennis in the tennis court and running on the football pitch. Without the sports facilities accessible to the common people, their sports talent is unlikely to be found and then fully harnessed.

There are certainly some benefits of the specialized facilities construction. The top sportsmen can be professionally trained without much disturb of the public, thereby concentrating on their physical practice. They can also make full of these facilities to boost their body and improve their professionalism. However, the beneficiaries are narrowly constrained with a small proportion of people and the sports resources are somewhat wasted.

In conclusion, the benefit of sports facilities should be enjoyed by more individuals rather than only meet the need of the sports elites.
