On  Translation of  Movie  Titles

Abstract

Nowadays, movie translation is supposed to play an important role in the cross-cultural communication. Nevertheless, up to now there still isn’t a systematic principle piloting movie translation. As a significant branch of movie translation, movie title translation haven’t received due attention. In the present thesis, the author makes a tentative study of movie title translation.
Through analyzing the present situation of movie title translation and exploring the characteristics of movie titles, within the framework of functional equivalence, this article introduces four basic values, namely the informative, the cultural, the aesthetic and the commercial values, and tries to generalize five translating methods with rich examples, which are transliteration, literal translation, liberal translation, and adaptation.

摘  要

雖然當今影視翻譯在促進中西文化的交流中變得極其重要，但是至今都沒有1套系統(tǒng)的翻譯方法來指導(dǎo)電影翻譯。而電影片名作為影視翻譯的1個重要分支以來都受到人們的忽略, 因此木本文就電影片名的翻譯作1個試探性的研究。
本文通過分析中英電影片名的翻譯現(xiàn)狀和結(jié)合電影片名的特點，提出了指導(dǎo)電影片名翻譯的4大價值標準，即信息價值、文化價值、審美價值及商業(yè)價值，并引用了豐富的例證概括了電影片名翻譯的主要方法。
