Botany Bay已允諾負(fù)擔(dān)四成的行銷(xiāo)費(fèi)用,也同意每年給付維修費(fèi)用。接下來(lái),Robert打算就傭金與合約期限等關(guān)鍵性問(wèn)題與Mark進(jìn)行磋商。
M: We're interested in an agreement with Pacer, if we can agree on the major issues.
R: That's great! How about hashing them out (詳談) now? We feel the trial period should be for a minimum of two years.
M: If total sales are good after the first year, we can talk about a long-term agreement.
R: We'd like to agree, but one year would be too early to judge. We'd need two years to develop the market (開(kāi)發(fā)市場(chǎng)). Anything less doesn't interest us.
M: O.K. But any new agreement will depend on yearly sales. We'll use a 45% increase as base.
R: As I said, we project that we can increase sales by 30% to 40% the first year. 45% over two years is possible, but we'd want a 15% commission rate (傭金).
M: 15% on this products a little high. If we agree to a 35% sales increase, could you come down to 12%?
R: I can't give you the thumbs up (同意) right now, but I think it will be alright.
M: Good. As a final point, we must get a guarantee that you will not sell for our competitor while you are our agent.
R: I see that would create a conflict of interest (利益沖突). We are not interested in doing business with anyone but Botany Bay.
M: 若能在關(guān)鍵問(wèn)題上達(dá)成協(xié)議,敝公司有意與Pacer簽約。
R: 那太好了!現(xiàn)在就細(xì)談如何?我們認(rèn)為試賣(mài)期限應(yīng)該至少兩年。

hash out 詳談;仔細(xì)討論
"hash"若作名詞,是指碎肉加馬鈴薯所烹調(diào)出的菜;作動(dòng)詞,則有‘把菜切碎’的意思。"hash out"則引申為‘將問(wèn)題分別仔細(xì)討論之后,才達(dá)成結(jié)論’。為美式口語(yǔ)。
If we cannot hash out this problem by Thursday, I'll have to cancel our proposal.
如果我們無(wú)法在星期四前把問(wèn)題談妥,我就得取消本公司的提案。
trial period 試驗(yàn)(賣(mài))期間
"trial"是‘試驗(yàn)’;"period"為‘期限;時(shí)期’。"trial period"在商業(yè)買(mǎi)賣(mài)中是指于一段時(shí)間內(nèi),某一方或雙方必須完成合約中的某項(xiàng)規(guī)定,再以此成果作為日后決策的依據(jù)。
We'll put this on the market for a two month trial period, to see if there is a good demand for it.

develop the market 開(kāi)發(fā)巿場(chǎng)
"develop the market"--‘開(kāi)發(fā)市場(chǎng)’,有兩層涵義:一是開(kāi)發(fā)新產(chǎn)品的市場(chǎng);二是針對(duì)舊產(chǎn)品拓展新市場(chǎng),如其它年齡層的消費(fèi)者或未開(kāi)發(fā)的銷(xiāo)售地區(qū)。

"commission rate"其實(shí)就是"commission",而且后者也較常見(jiàn)!畟蚪稹侵复砩獭⒅薪樯痰纫莱山坏慕痤~,照約定的比率酌收回扣。
If I join your sales team, I'd like a base salary of NT $40,000 per month, with a commission rate of 10% on everything I sell.

give (someone) a/the thumbs up 同意
"thumb"是‘拇指’。" thumbs up"字面意思是‘豎起拇指’;此語(yǔ)源于羅馬帝國(guó)時(shí)代,帝王以豎起姆指來(lái)表示在競(jìng)技場(chǎng)中斗敗的武士可免于一死;今則引申為‘通過(guò);同意’的意思。

conflict of interest 利益沖突
"conflict"是‘沖突’;"interest"在此不是‘興趣’,而是指‘利益’。"conflict of interest"則為‘利益沖突’,是指?jìng)(gè)人的利益與對(duì)他人的義務(wù)發(fā)生沖突的情形。
